The RB Eye Foundation, a non-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is committed to raising community awareness and support for patient care, diagnostic testing, and medical research pertaining to vision-threatening disease in children, including Leber Congential Amaurosis (LCA), and to supporting other related and/or worthy charitable causes.
The RB Eye Foundation was created in 2011 by Jim and Kami Schlossnagle. Jim is the head baseball coach at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth and has a very personal connection to pediatric eye disease through his children.
The RB Eye Foundation works in partnership with and financially supports the Child Vision Center of Fort Worth. Conceived and founded by the physicians of Pediatric Eye Specialists, the Child Vision Center is an innovative, nonprofit research and diagnostic center led by a team of pediatric ophthalmologists and ophthalmology specialist designed to create a world-class diagnostic and research center in order to provide care to all children who need it.
The Child Vision Center:
- Provides specialized testing for eye-related issues using diagnostic equipment typically found only at a few, large academic institutions.
- Offers such diagnostic testing to all pediatric patients, including those referred from Cook Children’s Medical Center, the Catherine Alexander Eye Clinic, and other health care institutions and eye care professionals. Results and other necessary support will be provided to each patient’s eye care team.
- Integrates the expertise of on-site specialists – experts in cornea and external disease, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, ophthalmic plastic surgery and vitreoretinal diseases – in diagnosing, treating and researching eye-related issues.
- Employs Ph.D. researchers in pursuit of breakthrough discoveries and innovations in pediatric ophthalmology.
- Provides specialized training in Fort Worth to international fellows – ophthalmologists from around the world who seek training to better care for pediatric eye patients in their home countries.
In addition, the RB Eye Foundation supports The University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and the John and Marcia Carver Nonprofit Genetic Testing Laboratory.
